COURSE FOR HOBBYISTS AND PROFESSIONALS

GOALS

The course aims to provide:

– The basics of olive grove management with the biodynamic method, to address the problems caused by climate change and obtain quality oils while respecting the environment, the soil and the cultivars.

– The basics of the facilitated and simplified vasopoliconic pruning technique, to obtain improvements in production and reduction of management times and costs

– Disseminate news from the olive world and approach to tasting Evo oil.

– COMPLETE: 3 days of theoretical and practical lessons including lunches €240.00

Plan:

FIRST DAY: Friday 19 JANUARY 2024 8.30am – 5.30pm

9am – 1pm Lesson by Dr. Giorgio Pannelli CREA-OFA, Spoleto
Theoretical lesson – part of pruning of correctly set adult plants (production pruning), up to plants that have “escaped” at the top and/or to be simplified in the skeletal structure for a more economical management of
pruning and harvesting operations (reform pruning). In any case, the operations will be carried out from the ground (without ladders) with the aid of telescopic, manual and/or mechanical equipment for rapid, economical and safe management of the work.

1.00pm-2.00pm LUNCH WITH A FIXED MENU IN THE COMPANY

2.00pm – 5.30pm Practical lesson in the olive grove at the La Valle dell’Usignolo farm. In the field on breeding/production/reform pruning Exercises on breeding/production/reform pruning

SECOND DAY: Saturday 20 JANUARY 2024 8.30am – 5.30pm
9am – 1pm Lesson by Carlo Noro

During the morning with the Master of Biodynamics Carlo Noro we will approach the Biodynamic method. He will tell us about the history and birth of biodynamic agriculture, to then focus on biodynamic olive growing: how the
plant is nourished starting from the construction of the soil. He will introduce us to the tools of Biodynamics: the preparation 500 cornoletame, the medicine for our land desertified by the conventional method in the last 100 years and the
preparation 501 cornosilica, which acts on light. It will guide us to know everything about these two preparations, how they are prepared, what they are and when they are used.

1.00pm – 2.00pm Fixed menu LUNCH IN THE COMPANY
2.30pm – 5.30pm Lesson by Giuseppe Palombo
theoretical – practical lesson on extra virgin olive oil extraction techniques, will be held at the Sanbenedetto oil mill.
Giuseppe Palombo, agricultural expert and manager of the Agricola Valle Dell usignolo company, expert in olive growing of the Itrana cultivar and in the production of EVO oil, will introduce us to the history of olive growing in our territory, its current trend and future prospects, will introduce the characteristics and differences of the major local cultivars, with particular attention to the Itrana cultivar, an important cultivar in our area with a dual purpose as an oil and table olive. We will know the extraction techniques of Evo oil and the main practices and attention to be carried out to obtain superior quality oils.

THIRD DAY: Sunday 21 January 2024 hours: 8.30 – 17.30
9 -13 Lesson by Carlo Noro
Theoretical and practical lesson in the olive grove at the La Valle dell’Usignolo farm. Demonstration of the dynamization practice of 500 cornoletame and 501 cornosilica. Distribution of the two preparations on the field.

1.00pm-2.00pm LUNCH WITH A FIXED MENU IN THE COMPANY

2.30 pm – 5.00 pm Lesson by Gisa Di Nicola
In the second part of the day Gisa Di Nicola, expert in Evo oil, Sommelier and oil taster, manager of the Oliocentrica oil library, will disseminate the news in the European olive oil panorama and will guide us in the tasting of different types of oil, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses, giving us important advice on the marketing of evo and evotourism. (for those who have the pleasure of bringing their own newly produced oil it will be included for tasting).
